As with all psychological issues there are multiple theories about why suicide seems more common among adults who self-harm than those who don't. The two prominent ones are that self-harm is raises its own major issues and the second is that the same mind-frame that makes self-harm seem like a viable option can also cause suicide to seem like one. The former is based off theories on why self-harm is addictive; the latter is based off theories that self-harm is form of spiting oneself.
