Although there is no reason to have to justify ourselves, it may help you to feel better about yourself if you create a short list of your general values which you can turn to when you feel torn between the things you can do. This can help prevent you from beating yourself up emotionally or self harming by allowing you to reaffirm yourself and why you were justified in past actions, evening if they somehow backfired and lead to regrets.
