Emotions are a natural part of being human. Denying emotions however is an emergency defense against them for our species. This can be useful but when taken to extremes it is one of the most likely things to lead to self-harming behaviour. Therefore the next time you feel the need to self-harm it may be wise to try and figure out if you have any major issues which you are denying as this can remove some of the urge to suppress your emotions.
